Tom and Mai’s Midland Hotel Wedding – Manchester
How/ where did you originally meet?
Tom and I originally met in a rock club called The Tache. He pretended to be my boyfriend to ward off another guys unwanted advances. The rest is history!
How did Tom propose?
The engagement was expected as we had been together for 10 years at that point. Tom and I went away to Granada in Spain. We had a lovely day of eating free tapas and visited an amazing gold covered Bascilica. In the evening after we had got ready to go out, he got down on one knee and proposed. I was actually expecting a sapphire ring but he gave me an Opal. It shocked me at first but now I love it even more because it was so unusual. We had a lovely evening celebrating and ended up in a jazz bar that gave you free jelly tots with a vodka limon!
Why did you choose The Midland Hotel?
We chose The Midland because it was our favourite hotel. The grandeur and style really fitted in with my vintage tastes. It was also a totally different setting to any wedding we had previously been to. Not to mention it is iconic!
What did you want you wedding to be like?
We wanted the wedding to be a massive celebration of us. We hoped it would be fun and that everyone would have a wonderful experience. I needed the food to be excellent as I am a foodie. I also wanted it to be filled with dancing in the evening. We definitely got both!
What was your favourite part of the day?
Tom – favourite part of the day was saying the vows and getting married.
Mai – it’s so hard to choose! It was all perfect. I think my favourite part of the day was the end if the first dance when were hugging. All the formalities were done and I was so happy that the dance had gone well and that he has learnt the dance just for me. Also had a little moment in the night do when I watched everyone on the dance floor having a brilliant time.
Have you got any advice for future brides?
My advice for future brides is not to stress on the actual day. Trust that you have planned and organised everything well enough and what will be will be. Enjoy every second because nothing can touch how you feel on that day. It is amazing!
Tell us about your honeymoon…
We haven’t been on our honeymoon yet. We had our mini moon in London which was brilliant. Great food, amazingly fast trains, bursting with culture and history.
We hope to have our main honeymoon early next year but we still haven’t decided on a location. Might go to several places!
What was important to you when choosing your photographers?
When choosing photographers it was so important that they were friendly. Your photographer is with you all day and luckily for us Iain and Suz were super friendly and they fitted in with all the silliness that goes on with our friends and family. I had seen their work before and the formal and informal shots were equally as good. It had to be them! They captured some fantastic moments in our day. It instantly felt like we had known them for years – I couldn’t recommend them highly enough.
